Flexible Cystoscopy

Flexible cystoscopy is a way of quickly inspecting the inside of the bladder without the patient requiring an anaesthetic.

This involves passage of a thin fibre optic telescope through the urethra into the bladder. Local anaesthetic gel is inserted into the urethra before the procedure to reduce discomfort.

The procedure usually takes about 3-5 minutes, after which the patient can go home and carry on normal activities.

It is important for patients to drink plenty after the procedure to reduce the chances of bleeding or infection which can sometimes occur.
