A flow rate test is a means of assessing how quickly the bladder can empty during urination. This requires the patient to urinate into a machine that indicates the volume and speed at which urine is passed.
Usually we will also try to determine if any urine is left in the bladder after urination by using an ultrasound scanner on the lower part of the abdomen. This measures the volume of fluid within the bladder.
